FINAL ORDERS
Final Orders was first produced at the Manhattan Theatre Club with Bag Lady and Sunset Freeway (under the collective title, Early Warnings). This fifteen minute play takes place in an underground bunker where the two characters guard the doomsday button.
EXCERPT
ANGUS: Crucible McGrath. McGrath here.
(He speaks to Mike.)
Nobody.
(Lights out. In the darkness two voices speaking rapidly, urgently.)
COLONEL FIRESTONES VOICE: So restore, restore. Damn it.
CAPTAINS VOICE: Were trying.
COLONEL FIRESTONE"S VOICE: How about drilling into the crucible?
CAPTAIN"S VOICE: Eight feet of lead, Sir.
COLONEL FIRESTONES VOICE: Blow them up...
CAPTAINS VOICE: Not without risking missile launch, Sir.
COLONEL FIRESTONES VOICE: Wont they expect telephone confirmation?
CAPTAINS VOICE: Yes, they will, Sir.
COLONEL FIRESTONES VOICE: And if they dont get it?
CAPTAINS VOICE: Theyre two of our best men, Sir.
