SHANTIGAR FOUNDATION

Shantigar, a not-for-profit foundation, is where artistic and spiritual practices meet. It is a farm on a spectacularly beautiful mountainside in Western Massachusetts.

Shantigar was founded by the playwright Jean-Claude van Itallie who owns the farm and has lived on it for over thirty years.

Shantigar workshops in performance and other arts are conducted by professional artists-teachers who share a commitment to an approach that is at once creative, healing and spiritual. Shantigar workshops are open to people at any level of experience.

Shantigar is also where professional actors, dancers, directors, visual artists, musicians and writers can collaborate on the creation of original plays and dance pieces in a peaceful rural atmosphere.

These productions then can be sent out into the world. Shantigar is also a quiet place where meditation teachers of different authentic lineages can hold retreats, and enter into dialogue and collaboration with artist-teachers.
